I know it is terribly untrendy of me but I like my stats and my graphs. Of course I’m not interested in the boring ones like oil prices or sticks,(meant stocks but sticks sound like fun) although done correctly they can be fun to look at also. We some times have the stats on the wall from google and its very interesting watching it live, numbers going up and down and such all very good fun. Facts are always easier to understand when given to us in a format we can engage with.

If you don’t know it well here is a quick summary. Preston guild is a celebration that happens every 20 years and the people of Preston celebrate the awarding of the right to hold a merchant guild (right to sell goods) in the town. It is the only place in the UK to celebrate this and is said to be the only one of its kind in the world.

As most of the curlykale staff aren’t from Preston they were a bit confused about the whole event but I was born here so have first hand knowledge. Going back 20 years, I was 9 (makes me very old) and I took part in the school concert on the park. Each school preformed different things highlighting Preston. My cousin was a house and I was a snooker pocket. Yes I was dressed in brown fabric, held my arms up and joined the other three lads who made up the rest of the pocket.

People from my school make up a giant snooker table,with cue, and played out a few shots, all very slowly might I add. Sadly I was not part of one of the pockets that saw any action but was happy to be part of it. I also remember it being very muddy and rainy. My parents took me to see the parades in town but I don’t remember much if anything from those, just plenty of walking. Apparently the street I live on now came first for best street party several ‘Guilds’ ago.

As it is another ‘Guild’ year all this is happening again and I look forward to some fun fireworks later on this year. However I will not be dressing up as a snooker pocket this time.

I dont really have anything interesting to force upon you, apologies as always with the lack of design / font & colour news. I feel that we should be providing you with up to the minute news on the latest fonts, the latest design trends and the latest colours to be released from pantone HQ… but that wouldn’t be very curlykale. Do you actually care that there is a new red that is a little darker, yet a tiny bit lighter than another one? ..I don’t…is that very wrong of me?

Its been all a go go here at curlytowers ™ We’re growing. We are working on some big things for some rather big chaps, and doing more and more of it every day, and its wonderful. But (apparently (according to dear daddy kale) sentences shouldn’t be started with ‘but’) I’m determined we remain approachable for the everyday chap and lass…nothing gives me greater joy than to hear the knock at the door and a couple walk in with an idea they have been sitting on, the idea that will change their lives, something they have been dreaming about..and they have decided to share it with us. Its a tremendous honour. Its not just a website / flyer / logo, its their life.

It amazes me every day that you guys decide to choose Curlykale, it really does… it means so much.

For somebody who had nothing to say I seem to have crammed a few paragraphs out, apologies once more if you have had to read this. I just want to get across my appreciation for you guys ringing us up, I know there are so many web design companies out there, if I could afford to take you all to Disneyworld I would.

Aren’t clouds odd things, misty puffs of white and grey stuff that float about. wouldn’t it be fun if we could have our own cloud inside like a new pet that happily floats around being a cloud.

As I browsed the highly cultured sites, I visit on a daily basis, with fine wine in hand (bbc news website and cup of morrisons own coffee) I noticed this lovely art project by a Dutch artist about clouds, ‘Nimbus’.

Berndnaut Smildeas uses a smoke machine, combined with moisture and dramatic lighting to create an indoor cloud effect.

It looks lovely just floating there, I do hope people can actually have a chance to walk around it or maybe in it but then again it might destroy it.

Anyway I must tear myself away from the art back to some web bits and bobs

After work I decided to venture out to the docks and have look at this sight, which could be seen for miles around. It was quite late in the evening and wasn’t expecting many people to be around but to my surprise there where quite a few people. There where plenty of people coming out to see this and even families bring kids along. There was a nice atmosphere with plenty of pictures being taken and people from all walks of life enjoying the rainbow.

When I first heard this art project was coming to Preston I didn’t think many people would be interested but there was quite a few people coming out and taking the time out to see it.

Anyhow I must dash and do some designing of the web while listening to the rain outside (which is actually quite relaxing)

Things have been changing at curly towers and glad to be busy busy. We even have a work experience chap called Alex, who is enjoying every tremendous design task that is sent his way (with added cats)

With spring in full action we see new life and a new season paving the way for the sun. It is this time of the year that makes me feel very positive, a time when I feel like things can really get going and I even venture outside without the aid of a very thick woolly jumper. More and more people are spending more time outside of the office and we have noticed it here at curly towers. We are so pleased to see a new face pop in for chat or a friendly voice on the phone who we have worked with before. So if your have an idea that you have been mulling over for a while why not do it at this prefect time of the year! It will be Christmas again before we know it

I shall now publish this post and enjoy the view the window provides me while enjoying a tasty cup of cheap coffee (which is actually quite nice)

The thing with bank holidays they throw everything off balance, Saturdays don’t feel like Saturdays and Sunday defiantly didn’t feel like Sunday. Even today, Tuesday doesn’t feel like Tuesday.

Here in Preston Easter sees the tradition of egg rolling down a hill. Ever since I was a kid I would be dressed up and taken to the nearest park with a decent hill, usually Avenham park. Then each chocolate egg was bagged up and rolled down the hill until it was broken and the eating would begin. I’m not too sure why eggs where rolled down a hill but it has been a tradtion in Preston for many years before I was born. After a quick Google I have found out they do it outside the white house in the US as well! (+2 points for interesting fact)

Anyway its back to work with more design and web based things, lets hope more warmth and sun appear above us!
