Like many things, the alphabet amazes me. We all wonder where things come from and for me this is one of them! After doing a little bit of research I came across some interesting information and images of how design today has adapted to the alphabet and how typography has become a vastly popular in today’s culture.

Where it came from

The alphabet originated from the Egyptians, which was mostly made up of symbols, until neighbouring countries mainly to the east and north – such as the Greeks started using it. Above is what the alphabet in the 1700′s looked like when they started using it! You may notice some letters are back to front or look completely different from how they do now – this is because letters have been rotated, altered, adjusted and adapted.
