Once more we’re having a bit of a dilemma. I cant helping thinking its time to redesign the site…we’ve been looking like this for quite some time now, and cant help but think it looks rather dated, and doesn’t quite fit us anymore.

So thought Id ask the wonderful readers of the blog your thoughts. Should we redesign? – we’re not thinking of going corporate and clean (gosh forbid!) ..would a little more crazyness put you off? Would more cats detract you from your reading enjoyment?

Any thoughts would be very welcome and very warmly received with a manly handshake or lovely cuddle.

I seem to start most of my blog rambles with a rant about how busy it is at the moment.

This one is no different.

Golly its been rather busy at the towers In the past month we must have least welcomed a good 9 and a half new clients aboard and finished some lovely bits and bobs for our current lovely chap base. (Have I written a recent blog that contained the exact same paragraph as above – I think I have) We’ve been inside caravans, charmed by owls and become obsessed with solar panel installation.

“So whats new at the towers?” I hear you cry. Well nothing too exciting to be honest. We recently moved the desks to a new angle of 30 degrees. The general consensus of the new angle is that ‘It looks fine’ Im not too convinced myself, it seems to have lost some of its vibe. It just looks a bit too thunderbirdsy.

In other news we have replaced one of our cups of coffee everyday with a lemon and nettle infusion.

Gosh what an exciting blog posting. There is some exciting bits and bobs in the pipeline for Curlykale, I hope to bring you news of them very soon, but for now…I must go repot my basil.

Have a lovely weeked.

Well blush my cheeks and rub my goosebumps, we’ve just had a lovely testimonial in from the wonderful Lyndsay and Martin over at Rosy Tree

“Adam is an absolute a joy to work with! There is no pushy sales talk, no false promises just a really approachable and friendly guy with fantastic creative flair and eye for design!

It has honestly been a pleasure working with Adam, the whole process has been so smooth and nothing was too big a task.

He has provided us with a professional, eye-catching and most importantly, affordable, website and I would recommend Curly Kale to anyone and will most certainly be returning again!

Thank you so much for everything (Including your amazingly fast responses to our many emails…whatever time of day!)

Lyndsay & Martin”

When it comes to SEO it can be a tricky business to explain and why you need it.
What puts people off is the amount if time it could take to see the results they want.

We at curlykale like to be up front and honest about how long SEO will take and what is needed to get the results you want. SEO isn’t instant but over time it grows and once in place it can be hard it knock away. However the main thing we will always say it is worth it!

Making your site is the easy bit but getting your web site noticed is the hard part. We have a lovely frequently asked questions page if you want to know anymore about SEO.

Can you believe it, a serious business post on the blog for once. Gosh I blame the coffee!

Thats right design fans, a new colour has been discovered by non other than Richard Plush of Henge Street.

This discovery comes just weeks after Richards’s disappointment to learn that his cat had caught a bit of chesty cough.

The colour has been described as “A bit like orange, but just a tad lighter”.

All attempts to capture the colour have failed. The colour was last seen tending to its young in a small damp cave.

Lets all wish Richard our very best in his quest.

Hello design fans.

We’re rather busy over here at Curlytowers ™ and are looking for somebody to come along and help us out with some of this design lark.

We’re looking for somebody that ……

  • Can do design an that (Photoshop, inDesign, Illustrator)
  • Can shimmy their way round HTML, CSS and possibly a bit of PHP would be lovely
  • Loves doing a spot of Branding
  • Knows their way around technical waters (setting up email, general upto date knowledge of the web scene)
  • Doesn’t mind a good old chat with clients on the phone

Do bare in mind that we are a little different over here. We aren’t super businessey, we don’t have set hours, we arent super trendy, we don’t have font books, we don’t have favorite pantone colours, we don’t spend all day flipcharting and considering the merits of green or lighter green...but we work hard and deliver good design to people in need that don’t want to spend over the odds for design.

If you’d like to join our small Curlykale family please email down a portfolio, CV and how much money you would like to job@curlykale.net

please do not call. I know everybody says you have to call to be remembered and that it shows initiative…but we are really really busy on the phone (which is why we are hiring) and as much as I’d love to have a chat, I really need to be doing some work!

A couple more points:

  • Doesn’t matter one bit if you have a degree or not
  • Would be lovely if you had some experience
  • Our favorite zone in crystal maze is the Aztec zone
  • We don’t do radio one

The world of SEO can be a tricky place to understand and knowing what is good and what is bad. If you follow a few tips on how to write a SEO article.

- Do some research on your chosen topic. It is usually not a good thing to be very vague about the topic. Get some facts and figures about the topics and work it into the article.

- Find an interesting way to put your information across. Not every one reads everything on an article if its just endless words but if you put it into bullet points or add some images it breaks it down and makes it easier to read.

- Make your article relevant to the topic. It makes more sense writing about medical equipment for a medical equipment site or tips on how to clean your home for an house clearance site.

- The most important thing about writing an article for SEO is make sure you put a link in it otherwise there isn’t much point sticking it on the web.

Well there was a some SEO Preston bloggy woggy for you, now back to drawing the new epic adventures of the SEO cat! Perhaps he can turn to the left in the next one?

Just a quick bloggywog post. We are a little poorly at the towers at the moment, the office smells of wonderful olbus oils, lemsips and lozenges. Apologies to everybody ringing up and being greeted by a deep voiced masculine chap – it is actually me!

In other normal news, we are considering a bit of an office revamp!

Its been such a busy week at curlytowers(tm) we’ve had so many people bobbing by that I’ve had to buy a calendar out of the office petty cash (pound coins I found in a drawer ). I thought it may be a good time to describe how we see things, how we work, and if we are right for you.

We are a rather small company. We work from a lovely office that we adore upstairs in the wonderful Remedy Centre in Preston (they can fix anything thats bothering you!) We are extremely proud of the fact that we have a sign outside.

We believe in what we term the business rules of ‘cricket’ or fair play. We treat our clients exactly as we would like to be treated. If we were running a business and wanted some design work / seo / graphic design we would want:

  • Some really nice guys we could talk to on the phone and ask endless amounts of questions
  • Really really quick response to any emails
  • Have a physical presence, an office we could visit  to have a chat rather than a back bedroom operation that could shut up shop any day
  • Mockups before we pay anything, and when we do pay, would want flexible options to pay
  • …most importantly, and rather cheap of ourselves, we would want somebody cheap

This matter of money / cost / price is built-in quite deeply to the Curlykale world.

When it boils down to it, we don’t charge very much. True, you can get websites and design work done cheaper from freelancers and certainly offshore. But you can also pay a lot (LOT) more. In the past week we have had wonderful people bob by who have been quoted at least 400% more than our quotation.

We strongly believe you may not have to pay a large amount of money. The web and general technology is moving on at such a rapid pace, developments such as wordpress, joomla and other fantastic content management systems enable the costs of webdesign to plummet. We want to pass these savings on to you.

If you want a completely bespoke website build, built from scratch, that has taken weeks of design and flipcharting we may not be the guys for you. If you want somebody to spend weeks agonising over a brand, pouring over font books, researching colours, trends and curves, we may not be the guys for you.

If you want a beautiful website that converts, need a flyer designed, need a logo or need your website on the first page, and just need everything to work and earn you some money, and you dont want to spend bags of money, please give us a ring.

We’ve been working with local clients now for over ten years. We have formed some fantastic relationships. What gets us up in the morning is knowing we are making a difference to small businesses looking to grow. We don’t have a trendy office, we don’t have trendy cars, and we don’t do lunch meetings with trendy coffee. We are far from corporate, and as you have just learnt, only recently purchased a calendar.

If you are looking for down to earth, friendly people to work with, please give us a call.

I do hope I havent rambled on too long!

Enjoy your weekends :-)
