To revert back to tradition I (Matt) will be bring you a non-design related post.

As I was wandering around the web after a very design heavy day I stumbled upon something rather wonderful. I discovered a new style of photography that really caught my eye, tilt shift. Even though its fairly new to me I have been informed, after an office discussion, that it has been around for ages. I won’t bore you with the exact details on how it is done but the clue is in the title.

That’s enough words, lets get straight into some lovely images to help me to show you want exactly I am going on about.

How the lens makes the real world look tiny is almost unbelievable. I also did spot a bit of video like this in some of the numerous Olympic montages.

I must apologise for the lack of cats or design in the post, now off to bed I go!

Would you mind a bath time ramble?..No? Excellent, than I shall continue.

Its been an extremely long and rather hectic fun day, I was at the computer in design mode at 5:30 this morning, and have only just shut down photoshop and have begun running the bath. It takes our aga (Mr Aga) four days to make enough water for a bath, and a further 45 minutes to run the bath, so I have 45 minutes to ramble here whilst the bath slowly fills and the air becomes moist with the lovely essence of Stress-Releaving Imperial Leather (A strongly worded letter will be on the way to imperial leather towers If I remain stressed after my soak)

So here goes another post not about web design but about clouds, white fluffy clouds.

Aren’t clouds odd things, misty puffs of white and grey stuff that float about. wouldn’t it be fun if we could have our own cloud inside like a new pet that happily floats around being a cloud.

well…….

As I browsed the highly cultured sites, I visit on a daily basis, with fine wine in hand (bbc news website and cup of morrisons own coffee) I noticed this lovely art project by a Dutch artist about clouds, ‘Nimbus’.

Berndnaut Smildeas uses a smoke machine, combined with moisture and dramatic lighting to create an indoor cloud effect.

It looks lovely just floating there, I do hope people can actually have a chance to walk around it or maybe in it but then again it might destroy it.

Anyway I must tear myself away from the art back to some web bits and bobs

Well the sky has opened and the rain is defiantly here. On a lighter note did anyone have the chance to see the global rainbow that was over the sky of Preston a few weeks ago?

After work I decided to venture out to the docks and have look at this sight, which could be seen for miles around. It was quite late in the evening and wasn’t expecting many people to be around but to my surprise there where quite a few people. There where plenty of people coming out to see this and even families bring kids along. There was a nice atmosphere with plenty of pictures being taken and people from all walks of life enjoying the rainbow.

When I first heard this art project was coming to Preston I didn’t think many people would be interested but there was quite a few people coming out and taking the time out to see it.

Anyhow I must dash and do some designing of the web while listening to the rain outside (which is actually quite relaxing)

I’ve been rather ranty on the blog recently, moaning about social media, the phone, it being too cold, too hot….So here I am with an actual post on web design. We’ll see how well it pans out (also thinking of introducing a weekly cooking feature)

I’m a big fan of using large background in web design, unfortunately this does slow things down and possibly angers google, but I think we should be designing for the people who are actually looking at your site rather than the google web design bots.

I’ll share a couple with you now, just below this text I am typing now…

http://www.tekahu.co.nz/ – love it to bits – probably a nightmare to update, and not too google friendly being built in flash, but still, lovely as lancashire hot pot

http://www.benthomsonphoto.com/ – Takes the types of photos I wish I could, absolutely glorious in their full screen majesty

http://www.immersive-garden.com/ – Gosh they have spent a bit of time on this one! Simply beautiful web design.

Hello there blog fans. How are you? I have an internal blog dilema I’d like to share.

Official business blog guidelines from the Official Ministry of Business Matters (OMBM) state a blog should contain news on your industry, insights in to the current affairs of the moment.

I’ll be honest with you. I dont get excited when I hear a new font has been developed, a new colour mixed or a new type of paper is out that is slightly thicker than a thinner one.

Dear reader (and you are very dear to us if you read our blog), dear reader I am hoping you think the same as I do on the Blog debate. Are you really interested in how Starbucks slightly updated their logo? Are you interested in reading about a fantastic new CSS method of making something curvy?

I hope not.

Please don’t get me wrong, that new curvy CSS dodah is fantastic.

I (and I think ‘us’ as a little company) would rather share our inspiration, what gets us up in the morning and those little things that excite us…and possibly a few rants now and then on companies spending £560,000,000 to slightly lighten up the green on a logo.

I’ll stop this Saturday rant and get to what inspired this posting.

Im a rather late to the music of James, but after hearing this on the Early Early Chris Hawkins breakfast show (bbc radio 6 – does this make me trendy? – I hope not)…After hearing this I have more or less had it on loop.

I hope you enjoy, I know somebody forcing you to listen to something they think is wonderful and you hate is horrible, but listen to the words, have a look at the pictures and do your best.

Have a lovely Evening

I’ll be back soon on that curvy CSS thing

Gosh you are being treated this evening to a blog onslaught. We have a ghostbuster round, which naturally scares me, so I am hiding away in the attic (man cave) with a laptop, a kitten and youtube.

I thought I would share this, it warms me and brings a smile. If the curly team didn’t go into design or catering I hope we would have landed here.
